Welcome to Tides Chat
Hello and welcome to the new Tides Chat page where you can keep up to date with what's happening at your local!
This week, we learned that Dumfries & Galloway Council wanted us to change the colour of the outside of our pub - due to the red paint, which we were told was "contentious". We've been accused of commiting a criminal offence by changing the appearance of a listed building without polanning consent. We've since met with planning officials and pointed out that there is no statute for the word "contentious" or "colour" and that this is merely an opinion of an individual. On this occasion, the Tides Inn Ltd disagree with D&G Council and we feel that the colour isn't contentious - Kirkcudbright is FAMOUS for it's brightly coloured buildings. We have agreed to consult the planning department before re-painting the building in line with our current maintenance schedule in 2012.
We've also been criticised for flying flags ( 2 Saltires, 1 Lion Rampant and the RAF flag - the licensees mother and father both served in the RAF ). We've been told this may be in breach of advertising regualtions. We feel, however, that every public building which flys a flag must also be breaking the rules.
What are your views? Should we take down our flags?? Please comment below - this is also an ONLINE PETITION - please simply write "KEEP THE FLAGS FLYING" and your name and address to back our campaign to leave the flags up!
